Meet Anne Scottlin | Author, Leadership and Confidence Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Scottlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anne, how has your background shaped the person you are today?

When you aren’t cut from the same cultural cloth as most of the people you work with, you have a unique opportunity to bring different perspectives and insights to your work. I was an unusual American kid. While other children my age were listening to pop music, watching TV or going to movies and Disneyland, I was wearing long dresses and learning how to grow food. I was the product of a counter-cultural religious family and grew up in a remote rural environment. I was homeschooled until I was fifteen and sheltered from fiction, movies, television, and most of the arts. It was a lonely existence for a natural extrovert.

The upside of my childhood was that I fell in love with nature and developed a vivid imagination. I didn’t have friends to confide in, and the only adults I felt I could talk to were my parents. I couldn’t look for answers or reassurances by reading popular books (not allowed), and we didn’t have the internet. So I reverted to self-soothing by visiting the ageless, timeless school of nature. This too set a theme for my life and work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

As a creative professional, I love creating fulfilling experiences for my customers and clients. I love to make learning both fun and personal. For example, my book Live for Joy, is a visual feast for the senses and the hard cover version has a sleek presence of its own (if you have one, you’ll know what I mean.)

I also believe that learning and life should be as joyful an experience as possible. Living courageously doesn’t necessarily imply that you need to live painfully. I teach the transformative joy of living a life of personal and professional confidence. I am so proud of founding the Power of Joy Institute, a collaboration of personal empowerment experts teaching professionals and creatives to step into their courage, discover their gifts of leadership and embrace the joy of living. Right now I’m excited about the results I’m seeing in my new program, The Surge (Confidence for Life).

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Getty. They have wifi and it’s a beautiful place to hang out for the day and just soak up creative spirit!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I am grateful for this opportunity to dedicate this shoutout to my husband Jon for his tireless patience and support of my creative talents and entrepreneurial enterprise. I am so grateful for his adventurous spirit and kindness. I also thank the many friends, mentors and teachers who have had a formative role in bringing me to this most exciting time of my life.
